It is my great privilege to represent the people of Monash in the Parliament of Australia. Our local area is a great place to live, work and raise a family and I work to ensure it continues to be an even better place for us all.
In addition to serving our Monash community, I am a vocal advocate for a just and compassionate society with a focus on: a fair and sustainable NDIS, care and dignity for our elders and their carers, respect for women, flexibility and support for small businesses and the humane treatment of refugees.
Keeping in touch with your views and opinions helps me to represent you and I encourage your regular feedback. Please take the time to complete my survey and you can also subscribe to my mailing list to receive regular updates.
I was mentioned on the 7am podcast recently, which considered free speech in the context of social media platforms and the eSafety Commissioner’s so called ‘take down’ powers, specifically in regard to X’s refusal to remove the video of the Sydney Church stabbing.
Is this post confronting? Of course it is.
But if distressing and confronting issues are not publicised and spoken about, what does that say about where this nation is heading?
I deeply fear for both ourselves, and for our future generations if this unelected eSafety Commissioner, and the Government of the day, can dictate what news the Australian people can and can’t see. ... See MoreSee Less
If our government is dictating what news we can and can't see are they no better than a communist country such as China / North Korea? Debate always needs to occur for all topics or we are nothing but slaves being told what to think when and how!
The federal Communications Minister, Michelle Rowland’s department has recently issued a document proposing amendments to the Online Safety (Basic Online Safety Expectations’ Determination – “BOSE Determination”) that would deprive Australians of free speech and the implied freedom of political communication guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Online Safety Act 2021 already grants an unelected bureaucrat, the eSafety Commissioner, extraordinary powers to enforce compliance with the Communications Minister’s directives.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has branded the e-Safety Commissioner the “Australian Censorship Commissar”.
Free speech is under serious threat in Australia, and those who truly value democracy must oppose this power grab by those who wish to have complete power and control over us hoi polloi.
Exactly. Senator isn't the govt taking feedback on this at the moment? Do you have the link so people can speak?
Thank you, Mr Broadbent. In respect to the Covid vaccines, perhaps the eSafety Commissioner should look into the following claim by former WHO physician and scientist, Dr David Bell: “They changed the name from a genetic therapeutic to a vaccine and because it's a vaccine, you don't have to do the normal trials of genetic therapeutics”.
